For this recipe I combined a variety of spices, adapting the recipe from a German cooking magazine. My trick – use the same spice mixture and spice fish or vegetables with it!
The good thing about this recipe is, that it mainly cooks for you and you can prepare the rest – or watch the match, while cooking for a bunch of hungry friends, while still being able to watch the game yourself!
Ingredients for 4-6
1.5-2kg sweet potatoes
Olive oil
½ teaspoon cinnamon (for the sweet potatoes, but not a must)
Butter (flaked for on top of the chicken)
1.5-2kg drumsticks (at least 2 per person, if they are small)
2-3 limes
1-2 avocados
½ bunch wild chives
Salt & Pepper
For the spice marinade:
1 teaspoon sweet paprika spice
2 teaspoons ground cumin
½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 ½ teaspoons dried thyme
1 ½ teaspoons dried oregano
1 teaspoon black peppercorns
1 ½ teaspoons brown sugar
Directions
Pre-heat the oven to 200°C (circulating air).
Start with peeling the sweet potatoes and cutting them in slices and place them on a baking tray (you can either do wedges or fries-style slices – try to keep them similar in size so the cooking time is the same). Add olive oil on top of the sweet potatoes, carefully add cinnamon (not too much, it’s more like a hint), as well as salt & pepper and bake in the oven for approx. 30-40 minutes.
Mix all marinade spices together and ground them finely. In a bowl combine the spice mixture with the drumsticks evenly.
Spread the butter flakes on the drumsticks and lay them onto the sweet potatoes after 10 minutes (or alternatively you can put them in their own baking tray or baking form) and place in the oven for the remaining time.
Meanwhile prepare the guacamole-style avocados by removing the avocado flesh and mashing it with a fork in a bowl. Wash and cut the wild chives into small tubes and mix with the avocado. Add salt & pepper to taste and squeeze out the fresh lime juice of 1 of the limes and mix.
When the chicken is ready, cut the limes into little wedges and squeeze the juice onto the drumsticks before serving (or serve lime wedges for each to prepare on their own) and serve the avocado mix separately.

Perfectly delicious meal with enough spicyness and sweetness at the same time. Goes very well with a Riesling or Grüner Veltliner as wine 😉
