Sometimes its just super nice to reminisce about the last vacation you had…and for me this involves the thought of a delicious Valdostana. Last time I enjoyed a piece was at the pool side for lunch in Italy. But what is a Valdostana? It’s a puff pastry quiche style dish filled with ham and cheese. Perfect to go with a green or cucumber salad.
Ingredients (approx. for 4)
Pre-heat the oven to 180°C above and under heat
2 round shaped puff pastries (I bought them)
Approx. 150g Edamer cheese, sliced (alternatively use Emmentaler / Leerdammer)
Approx. 100g cooked ham
2-3 tablespoons tomato passata
Directions
Pre-heat the oven to 180°C top & bottom heat.
Lay out the first puff pastry in a quiche form – keep the baking sheet underneath as lining. Now spread the tomato passata, lay the ham on top, then the cheese slices, and then lay the second puff pastry on top (without the baking sheet) and combine the two puff pastry layers with your fingers.
Poke holes into the top puff pastry layer with a fork.
Place the form in the middle tray of the oven and bake for approx. 25 minutes, remove and flip over (I place the turned around Valdostana into the same form) and bake another approx. 15 minutes until golden brown. Flip to the correct side again and serve.
