Yay!! It’s strawberry time!

This is one of our family recipes – once you’ve done it once, it’s really easy and fast to make! You only have a really short time in the oven, which is cool and you don’t need any butter!

Perfect also to enjoy with raspberries…give it a go! We did ⅓ raspberries and ⅔ strawberries this time!

Wild Garlic & Lemon Pesto

Prettaly_WildGarlicLemon_Pesto.jpg

It’s all around at the moment: wild garlic! It looks like beautiful white flowers with lots of green around them.
The really nice thing about wild garlic is that it has a very nice and herby taste, not as strong as normal garlic and the best part about it – you don’t have that typical smell on you the next day.
We served the pesto with fresh white asparagus. But it also matches great with meat or as a pasta sauce!

Pumpkin Seed Cream Cheese Spread

Prettaly_Pumpkin_Seed_Creamcheese_Spread.jpg

I first got to know this absolutely delicious spread during a dinner of a very good Austrian friend of mine. She served this as an appetizer everyone adored it! It’s typical in the «Steiermark» region of Austria.

By the way – should you have any left, it’s a perfect addition to the breakfast or brunch table! Or just prepare half of the amount for a smaller portion, just for the family.

Fairy Kiss Cookies (Toffifee Feenküsse)

Prettaly_FairyKisses

Very close friends here in Zurich are absolutely addicted to a German Toffee-Chocolate sweet called «Toffifee». They are very sweet and if you are honest don´t actually need a cookie around them, but when I discovered this recipe I just had to surprise my friends and give it a try. Toffifee consist of toffee/caramel and chocolate, filled with nougat and a hazelnut…

Sweet Potato and Ground Meat Casserole

sweetpotatogroundmeetcasserole

I’ve always been a big fan of ground meat, especially in a casserole style. The sweet potatoes give this recipe a special sweetness and makes it a little different to other tastes you usually experience. And the cheese on top is yummy scrummy. A perfect comfort food for an easy weekday dinner at home or ideal for kids…

Parmesan-Breaded Veggie Kohlrabi Schnitzel with Cucumber Salad

ParmesanBreadedKohlrabiSchnitzelWithCucumberSalad.jpg

Another very nice vegetarian dish, easy to prepare and a nice alternative for a weekday dinner. And I love cucumber salad always and everywhere! Hope you like the combo.

Did you know that Kohlrabi has a German origin, coming from the words «Kohl» (cabbage) and «Rabi» (Swiss German for turnip)? And as it is not so common, the original German name «Kohlrabi» stuck even in English-speaking countries or is translated into cabbage turnip!

Lambs Lettuce with Bacon-Wrapped Dates

Prettaly_LambsLettuceWithDatesInBacon.jpg

One evening I was looking into the fridge and was deciding what to cook for the evening. I often have lambs lettuce and avocado in the house (as you might have noticed – both favorites in my kitchen) the bacon and dates caught my eye. In Germany we call dates rolled into bacon as follows: «Dates in Bacon-Coat». The combination of the salad, avocado and dates with bacon was an absolute delight! Hope you like it.
